Eighties-style fashion is a new dress code for woman

GIORGIO ARMANI launches women’s collection for autumn/winter 2009-2010. There is a new, unexpected but deliberate disorder about this collection in that it refuses to recognise the hierarchy of dress. Here each piece can be combined democratically, added or subtracted that defines the edgy contemporary mood.

Glossy fabrics create contrasts with chunky matt wool; a featherweight mesh layered over printed patterns blurs the edges. A headscarf tied like a turban appears to unravel on the nape, the generous cape style coats seem to melt around the body: aesthetics and shapes have been chosen to update the somewhat theatrical impact of Eighties-style fashion.

Replacing jackets and light coats, the fabric-look knit cardigan is meticulously lined and piped in satin. There are touches of brilliance against a palette of pewter grey, foggy grey, steel grey and charcoal grey – new variations on black; these are lit up by pinpoints of light and glints of lustrous bronze that add an element of excitement.

Legs are always covered by slim trousers or matt tights, set off by shoes with vertiginous heels for the day. While for a lighter evening footstep, low embroidered boots cast a different spell.
