For those of us in the industry, it began well over a year ago, with the demand from retailers requesting more for less. Retailers have been negotiating down every penny from their suppliers, or worse, not buying at all. So with the disappearing discretionary spending of the fashionista the recessionistas was born. Right?

Maybe not; it is a common belief that as our shopaholic fashionista has felt the pinch of the recession she has become thrifty. The concept is fashionistas have traded in their Ferragamo pumps for Old Navy flip-flops. While we certainly believe a great many middle-class and upper middle-class fashionistas have stopped coveting the latest 4k “it” handbag in favor of shopping Loehmann’s sales, many have not. At the high-end of the luxury market the uber-fashionista still remains. At the same time, we don’t buy into the belief that being a recessionista is simply a new trend. Being a budget conscious, comparison shopper has always been in fashion. This is why designer diffusion lines at Target, or stores like H&M and Forever 21 have proven to be so popular. Idea of the robot was envisioned in 2006, and took three years of time to materialize. The main purpose of its creation is to utilize in the entertainment industry and in fashion shows.

Plans are contemplated to debut the robot in the runway for a catwalk as a fashion model at the Tokyo Fashion Week. Its body parts are made precisely small enough, and with slim legs to give an appearance of a female model. It would be exciting to see a hot looking woman robot marching down on the ramp, and catch the eyes of android fans. The robot accomplished fairly well in posing for the cameras during the trail run. Apart from creating beautiful clothes Noir’s vision has also led them to create a new cotton fabric brand called Illuminati II with the intention of producing a new luxury fabric from raw African cotton for use by leading luxury fashion brands around the world. More importantly their initiative has led to the establishment of the Noir Foundation, a fund that allocates a high percentage of revenue from sales to support the African cotton workers as part of the Proud Harvest supply chain. By providing essential medicine and micro loans, the so-called Humane Business Model provides much needed support where it is required the most.
As if all of this wasn’t enough, Noir happens to be a member of the U.N. Global Compact adhering to human rights, labour safety, environment and anti-corruption politics and is also affiliated with The International Labour Organization.

Noir is the brainchild of Peter Ingwersen who was previously a Brand Manager for Levi’s RED and Levi’s Vintage before becoming a Managing Director at Day, Birger et Mikkelsen (another successful Danish fashion brand).

We love the way that Noir have treated the cotton they use to create what they call cotton couture. Specially treated cottons including a coated cotton that gives the impression of rubber, a honeycomb cotton with sculptural qualities and cotton silks with a luxurious feel.
